Restoring Honor Rally in Washington DC

On Friday, August 27th, James and I flew to Washington DC for Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor Rally. We stayed in Silver Springs, MD which is about 7.5 miles North of the National Mall. On Saturday morning we got up early (what we thought would be early) and headed into DC. The monorail was packed all the way from Silver Spring! The news reported that even at 7am the area in front of the Lincoln Memorial was packed all the way from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to the World War II Memorial! We were only able to get about 2/3 of the way up to the Lincoln Memorial before settling for a spot we could see (and hear) one of the big screens. We were underneath the trees on the North side of the Reflecting Pool which turned out to be nice since the sun was bright and very warm.
The program was amazing! All of the speakers were respectful and inspiring! There are many sites that have information on the program that was presented so I won't go thru the whole presentation but I have to say my favorite parts were Dr Alveda King's speech and Glenn Beck's speech. Check out www.glennback.com/828 or www.facebook.com/restoringhonor
It was very special to be a part of that immense crowd of patriots!
After the Rally we wandered around DC for several hours and then went back to the hotel. We had planned on touring the Monuments and War Memorials after the Rally but the crowd was way too big.
Sunday morning we returned to the National Mall and walked the full length from the center where the Smithsonian monorail stop is up to the Capitol Building, down the length of Pennsivania Ave, passed the White House and then all the way down to the Lincoln Memorial. It made for sore feet but it was so amazing seeing all the buildings, monuments and plaques.
We rushed home Sunday afternoon and were back to work Monday morning but the trip was worth every sore muscle and every minute of sleep lost.

Bloggggging

I feel like I should make a commitment to myself. I will post at least 1 blog per month for 12 months. If I miss then I am going to delete the blog. Seriously, what is the point of having a blogspot if I am not posting?! It is just silly. So, this one counts for September! I am going to post another about the Aug 28th Restoring Honor Rally in WA DC that will count for August! :P My blogspot--I can 'back-credit' myself.

More Springing

While James was building the trellis I went over and snapped some pictures of our lilacs. They are blooming beautifully this year! What an awesome flower!

Springing into...Spring.

Ok, so James made two raised flower beds for me and is working on a raised area surrounded by rocks for his cactus. I have one of the beds planted in Job's Tears, Bachelor Buttons and Baby's Breath. The other bed will have Morning Glories, poppies, more Bachelor Buttons (in a different color) and probably some more Baby's Breath. James built a trellis for the Morning Glories and I hope they grow well and get all the way to the top!

Random Catch Up

It is April now and it feels like only a few days ago (to me) that we were welcoming first Zachary and then Jonathon into the family! But it has actually been over a month since Jonathon was born on March 4th!
Plans for a garden are underway and there are a few seedlings popping up in their starter pots. Yesterday and the day before we spent lots of time cleaning and getting caught up around the house. Today and Sunday I plan on playing! Then back to work on Monday. I have a very blessed life.

February Blessings

Zachary Daniel was born Feb 9th! He is the newest nephew added to my family and he is beautiful. Byron and Laura are doing a great job these first few weeks getting him adjusted to life in the cruel, cold world. Actually, it has been very sunny the last several days, which is very nice.
James has been out of work this month, which isn't a blessing, except that he has been able to do several little things around the house that we have been putting off for lack of time and energy. I suppose it is a blessing in some ways. I am such an optimist that I can find something good in almost anything. It is alot more fun than being a pessimist!

My One Resolution

Ok, so it is January 2010. My one New Year Resolution is to in some way acknowledge or celebrate all of my nieces and nephews' birthdays. I already missed one (Jan 6th) but a card is on its way to her. There are no more until February when two new ones will be born. Counting the two that are due in February I have 17 nieces and nephews! And they are all precious, wonderful people (well, I am assuming the new little ones will be great!). So I have started composing little birthday poems for the cards I will send and I have been thinking about different gifts. I know I can get them each at least a card.
